The Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera and I were recently acquainted and this petite camera has begun to replace my smart phone during our everyday adventures, big and small! My family’s best photo opportunities happen at a moment’s notice as the kids inevitably do something cute in the grocery store, at the park, or in the library when I have completely forgotten to bring along my DSLR. The size of the Fujifilm X-T1 allows me to stash it quickly into my bag, and leave it there, making my camera always available whether I had plans to photograph the kids or not. The camera body weighs less than one pound, which adds essentially no weight to my bag!
Shooting in manual mode is effortless with the analog dials on the roof of the camera. The dials allow me to stay out of the menu so I have full and fast control, adjusting the shutter speed and ISO with a spin. For occasions when the kids and I are switching locations quickly, however, the X-T1’s Aperture Priority Mode takes care of my ISO and shutter speed, exposing amazingly well.
Admittedly, I fall into the shy photographer category. Often I find a quiet corner while shooting, out of sight. The Fuji offers two shooting features, one looking through the viewfinder and another through the LCD screen. Simply moving the camera away from my eye sends a message to turn on the LCD shooting screen without even clicking a button! I’m less sheepish in public with a camera comfortably away from my eye. Turning on the face detection feature helps tremendously in these quick moments (or when attempting selfies with the kiddos), giving the camera full control over focal points based on the faces within the frame. However, when I want my control back, I can switch the settings to manually choose one of the 49 autofocus focal points.
Another feature to write home about is how simply I can share images by sending them to my iPhone through the Fuji app! I’m notorious for allowing images to sit around on a memory card for far too long, but now I can share images immediately with anxiously awaiting grandparents.
The picture quality and RAW shooting capability provide perks rivaling my DSLR while granting the flexibility of a smart phone. Between the ease of use, the size of the camera, and the quality of images, the Fuji X-T1 has a new home in my purse! The camera body’s retail price is $1299.
Must lens : all 😉
Seriously, go for the 35mm 1.4 or 23mm 1.4
