This + That: Purse, camera bag, or both?

choosing between camera bag or purse

The only time I carry my camera backpack with me is when I go on a trip or when I am out shooting a client session.

Most of the time I just want to be able to put my DSLR in my purse and head out the door. But I also want my camera to be protected. I stumbled upon a simple black purse at H&M and instantly knew that it could serve two purposes: it could be my purse and also my camera bag.

My search initially started when I wanted something new I could take to ClickAway to use when we went out to eat or if I had time to do some sightseeing, but didn’t want to take my backpack camera bag. This purse fits the bill and is so versatile! It has two handles so I can carry it on my arm, or I can wear it cross-body or on my shoulder using the longer strap. This bag is great as a standalone purse, but with the addition of an Ape Case Cubeze Interior Case for Cameras, I can carry my camera with me without sacrificing style, function, or protection. And I love that it’s a black bag: It goes with everything, is discreet enough when walking around the city, and can even be taken to formal functions without anyone being the wiser. Even with the insert in it, there is still plenty of room for my wallet, keys, and any other personal items I need with me that day. At only $40 total for both items, I feel good knowing that my gear is protected and I haven’t broken the bank to do so.

What’s in my purse camera bag:

  • Nikon D600 with attached Nikon 85mm f/1.8G
  • Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens
  • ExpoDisc
  • Wireless remote
  • Phone charger cord
  • Scarf camera strap
  • Wallet
  • Keys
  • Cosmetic bag
  • Mints & gum
