Wooden toy photo props for photo shoots

wood toys for photographing children

When photographing small children and babies alone, it’s often essential to keep the kiddos busy within the frame.

Usually, I’ll begin by asking parents if they have any meaningful toys or items that will photograph well. But in case that they don’t, my bag is always filled with beautiful and simple wooden toys that are both novel and add a natural feeling. These can be chewed on and loved yet allow the beauty of the child to shine within the image.

Here are some of my favorite wooden toy picks:

1. Land of Nod Heart Teether

Babies who have been chewing on their agenda will do well with this heart-shaped wooden teether sized perfectly for little hands! It’s crafted from locally harvested wood and excludes finishes and chemicals. As an added bonus, it will work perfectly for Valentine’s Day-themed sessions!  $9.95

2. Little Sapling Toys Wooden Toy Camera

What pairs better with a photo session than a camera? Made of maple and walnut, the camera body has a viewfinder, spinning selector switch, lens that turns to focus is sanded smooth and rubbed down with beeswax and organic jojoba oil. $35

3. Happy Bungalow Magic Wand Wood Hearts

Add some magic to your session with a wooden wand. The wand’s edges are rounded over and everything is sanded smooth. Finished with natural linseed oil, the heart is three inches wide and the wand is around twelve inches long. $10

4. Aro’s Wood Crafts Wooden Toy Car for Children

Add a vintage flair with this eco-friendly vintage Model-T Ford style car made of reclaimed solid oak and cedar wood. These toys are created with safe, non-toxic glue, and are clear-coated and unpainted. The wheels turn to add some fun! $12

5. Magic Cabin Grow-With-Me Wooden Rocking Horse

This rocking horse is great for littler children who need more support and features a safety surround on the seat that can easily be removed for older children. Rubber stoppers on the bow are specially designed to prevent tipping. $79.98
