This $900 everything lens is the best walk-around zoom we’ve seen for mirrorless

Versatile zoom lenses aren’t just for landscape and street photographers anymore. They’re so useful for any situation where just one lens would make things easier (which, let’s be honest, is pretty much every situation in life). But, we’ve still gotta have that wide aperture we love and the pro quality we absolutely need. Which is why we’re here for the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III VXD G2 for Sony mirrorless.

Say, for example, you’re hiking up a beautiful mountain with your kiddos. You feel the gentle wind at your back and the sunshine on your face, the sounds of singing birds in your ears. You can’t wait to start taking pictures of your family enjoying nature and… Wait, what’s that sound? A whining child? No! How did you not notice this hill was so steep and that the sun was so bright and the wind so cold, oh yeah, you forgot snacks. Do you really wanna switch lenses to get that close up of your sweet baby’s face?

Scenario two… You just arrived on location and are ready to start your holiday mini sessions. You can’t wait to work with all these gorgeous families! The light is just so golden and the trees are illuminated just so and the temperature is perfect with no bugs or strong winds. Nothing could ruin this day! Except… Noooo, the two-year-old skipped his nap and the baby is teething. And, is that a brooding teen? But yeah, go ahead and get those close ups and then swap lenses for the family shots. The kids will wait. Right?

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have the perfect zoom lens to capture it all before the situation becomes critical? Just saying, the Tamron 28-75mm G2 makes it easy peasy.

But, I only shoot with primes.

Hey, that’s cool. We love prime lenses too. But have you ever noticed that they’re kind of… inconvenient at times? Like, those long walks through the city when you just want to throw your camera over your shoulder for creative street shots without lugging along a bag of lenses. Or, those travel days where you need to keep things light and mobile and your lens is like the last thing you want to worry about.

The Tamron 28-75mm G2 can make things a little easier. It’s a versatile walk-around zoom that can help you capture absolutely everything in stunning detail, making it so perfect for photographing anything and everything.

Yeah, but zoom lenses are heavy.

Not any more! The Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2 for Sony mirrorless is lightweight and compact, making it the perfect companion for every single adventure you go on. Plus, the G2 model incorporates improved ergonomics — like upgraded zoom-ring texture and a new sculpted shape — so it’s super user friendly.

We love this lens for street photography, travel or photographing clients in busy locations where you don’t really want to draw tons of attention to yourself. Plus, it’s a breeze to carry around for those adventures with your own family (and affordable enough that you won’t totally die if something happens to it).

Who needs this lens?

1. Travelers: The versatility and lightweight size of this walk-around zoom make it the perfect travel companion for keeping things simple while still getting all the shots.

2. Family Photographers: Toddlers (and also dads) don’t have much patience for photos so choose a lens that lets you get all the variety you want in a family session without having to interrupt your flow to change lenses.

3. Photo Mamas:  If you like taking your kids on adventures, you need a super simple kit that lets you get creative without taking you away from the moments that matter.

4. Street Photographers: If you like to stay moving and incognito for those people-watching shots, this is a great little zoom for you.

5. Pet Photographers: Much like toddlers, pets don’t stay still very long. The speedy AF on this zoom will help you catch those furball moments with precision.

6. Documentarians: Whether it’s photos of your own family, in-home client sessions or other documentary photography work, the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is perfect for real-life photos in any light or space.

7. Commercial Photographers: Think of capturing a chef during dinner rush and being able to seamlessly capture wide-angle action shots and then zoom in for all those delicious food details. Or, photographing a yoga teacher in-session while creatively zooming in on her brand logo or products.

Convinced? Yay! Now let’s talk about what makes this lens perfect for mirrorless shooters.

If you own a Sony E-Mount mirrorless camera, you already expect amazing performance in a small, light package. The Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 does not disappoint. With the perfect versatile zoom range,  creativity-inspiring wide-aperture, superfast auto focus and outstanding resolution, you won’t find a better partner for your everyday adventures. Plus, with a price point just under $900, you won’t be afraid to put it to work.

What makes the Tamron 28-75mm G2 unique?

One thing we love about this zoom is the close focusing improvement, which makes it possible to photograph up-close detail while emphasizing the perspective of a wide-angle shot (at 28mm, the minimum optical distance is 7.1 inches). So, you can capture the texture of a waffle while still including the colors and atmosphere at the table to give the viewer context.

Another amazing feature is the super-quiet (yet extremely accurate) autofocus. Whether you’re shooting video and need everything silent or just don’t love noisy autofocus, this lens delivers. Plus, the G2 model is about twice as fast as Tamron’s first generation model of this lens, making it pretty darn quick.

Lastly, we have to mention the fixed F2.8 aperture. Obviously the zoom range on this lens is amazing and perfect for all the things. But, the wide aperture is what makes it possible to really get creative. You don’t always find creativity and versatility in one package, but this lens gives you both. Because, “easy” and convenient shouldn’t mean sacrificing your style or creative options. This lens is truly a win for those who want it all.
