Welcome to the imagination issue! This Fall, we wanted to help you unlock that voice deep inside you that soars unconstrained by self-judgment. To free our imagination, we must be able to relinquish our inhibitions and allow ourselves to expose our vulnerabilities. “When artists are courageous enough to tap into their vulnerability, they also tap into the healing power of art for themselves and the people who view their art,” teaches the Milan Art Institute.

This issue we wanted to visit with artists whose imaginary lives are bountiful. Jackie Haxtahusen takes us behind the scenes of her colorful, creatively styled images. Thank you, Jackie, for helping us understand it’s OK to heighten reality and enrich our palettes.

We meet the amazing Hilaire Baumgartner, whose food image-making is sublime. Get ready for some flat lays and color play that feel like you’re stepping into the Land of Oz.

Leah McLean’s story is a personal favorite because her creative journey in floral photography is so methodical and joyful at the same time. Leah thinks about what she wants her bouquets to look like at least one season ahead, grows her subjects from seeds, plucks them at the perfect moment, styles her own bouquets, lights and captures her arrangements with judicious care, and well, wow.

When it comes to sparking your imaginative fires, anything goes. Tell those negative voices to get lost, and go out and get creative, creatives!
